BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County DHHS - Public Health Division has received an award in the amount of $65,000 for the School-based Oral Health Initiative. The first six (6) months, Public Health’s Dental program will work with the technical assistance team, led by the Medical University of South Carolina’s Division of Population Oral Health and its partners, to conduct a feasibility study, develop a business plan and obtain supplies/equipment and staffing to support the proposed expansion program. The period of this funding is September 1, 2019 - February 28, 2020. After the initial six (6) months, Guilford will be eligible to apply for an additional two-year implementation (of program expansion) and data gathering grant of up to $1 million.

REQUESTED ACTION

Requested Action

Approve an increase of $65,000 in Other Revenues and increase the DHHS-Public Health Division FY 2019-20 budget by the same amount to reflect $65,000 in funding awarded from Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation for the period from September 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 for the School-based Oral Health Initiative program.  Funds will be used to conduct a feasibility study, develop a business plan for the proposed expansion program, and possibly obtain staffing, supplies, and equipment for the expansion, dependent on study outcome.
