BACKGROUND

Background

The North Carolina Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities awarded funds to North Carolina Region V through a funding agreement with Alamance County Health Department. Guilford County Department of Health & Human Services - Public Health Division has received $17,725 to participate in the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP).  Public Health will screen potential MDPP participants to ensure they are pre-diabetic, per CDC guidelines, as well as hold education programs on how to prevent pre-diabetes from turning into diabetes.  This program will be a series of twenty-two (22) classes.  Classes cover healthy eating, active living and encourages weight loss.  Funds will be used for diabetes screenings/meetings, participate transportation, nutrition samples, advertisement, and education and training.

Requested Action

Approve an increase of $17,725 in Federal/State Revenue and increase the FY 2017-18 Health & Human Services - Public Health Division budget by the same amount to reflect funds received through an agreement with Alamance County for the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program.
