BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Division of Public Health (GCDPH) participates in a program called the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP) through the NC Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities. The Alamance County Health Department is the lead county that administers grant funds to nine counties which includes Guilford, Chatham, Rockingham, Durham, Alamance, Orange, Caswell, Person, and Randolph counties. MDPP is a CDC, evidence-based pre-diabetes program designed to be administered over the course of one year to qualified participants. The goal of MDPP is to increase access to diabetes prevention activities for minorities to delay the onset of full-blown diabetes or prevent its onset. In conjunction with community partners, GCDPH is finishing up its sixth year of MDPP classes and is on the seventh fiscal year of the MDPP grant.
As an evidence-based program, the best practice is to conduct classes in-person with other participants so that group support can be developed with engagement from the lifestyle coach who conducts the classes. The MDPP program continues to partner with Mount Zion Baptist Church in offering classes.
As of June 2023:
·12 participants attended the class for almost a year
·Participants logged in anywhere from 30 minutes of physical activity a week to 400 minutes of physical activity a week.
·The average weight lost per person for the class was 13.5 pounds.

Through this interlocal agreement with Alamance County Public Health Department, Guilford County Public Health has been awarded additional funds in the amount of $2,000 to purchase A1C testing supplies. The additional funding brings the contract for FY23-24 to $13,643.
