BACKGROUND

Background

Through a funding agreement with Alamance County Health Department, the Guilford County Department of Health & Human Services - Public Health Division has received an award in the amount of $14,250 to participate in the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program (MDPP). Public Health will screen potential MDPP participants to ensure they are pre-diabetic, per CDC guidelines, as well as hold educational programs on how to prevent pre-diabetes from turning into diabetes. This program will be a series of sixteen (16) classes that covers healthy eating, active living and encourages a 5%-7% weight loss. This is part of a larger grant from The North Carolina Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities awarded to region 5, which consists of the following local health departments; Alamance, Person, Durham, Orange, Randolph, Guilford, Chatham, Rockingham and Caswell.

Funds will be used for diabetes screenings, advertisement, and education and training.

Requested Action

Approve an increase of $14,250 in Federal/State Revenue and increase the Department of Health & Human Services - Public Health Division FY 2016-17 budget by the same amount to reflect funds received through an agreement with Alamance County for the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program.
