BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services-Public Health Division has received notification of grant funding in the amount of $35,570 from the North Carolina Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NCAFCC). These funds are designated for the expansion of the Medication Assistance Program (MAP) within our Public Health Pharmacy.

The MAP Program, initiated in Greensboro in 2000, has been instrumental in providing essential assistance to uninsured Guilford County residents with chronic health conditions. Through the MAP Program, qualifying individuals receive access to prescribed medications necessary for managing chronic conditions, obtained free of charge through patient assistance programs offered by drug manufacturers. Over the years, the program has served more than 1,500 unduplicated individuals and provides over $1 million in free medications annually to those enrolled.

The grant funds from NCAFCC will significantly enhance the capacity of the MAP Program to serve the community. The funds will be allocated towards purchasing medications and acquiring a new Pharmacy software package. By expanding the scale of the MAP Program, more uninsured individuals with chronic health conditions will receive access to life-saving medications without any financial burden.
