BACKGROUND
background
Guilford County on behalf of its DHHS-Public Health Division is renewing an annual agreement with Guilford County Board of Education to provide five (5) nursing personnel hired as employees of Guilford County DHHS-Public Health Division to provide school nurse services in Guilford County Schools with an effective period of July 1, 2022 for the FY 22-23 academic year. Guilford County Schools and Public Health have been in partnership for school nursing services since the 1990s. This helps to provide nurses in Guilford County schools and supports the management of health conditions of students with medical needs. Also providing consultative services for all health-related issues in the school setting. The primary focus of the School Nurse is to keep students in school as safe and healthy as possible. Research shows that when a school nurse is present in the building 92% of the students that present in the health room are able to return to class. The health status of students has a direct influence on educational achievements. Ensuring that children are healthy and ready to learn could affect their eventual productivity as contributing citizens to Guilford County. It is imperative that the student to nurse ratio continues to improve so the School Nurse can be present more hours in each assigned school.
Guilford County Board of Education agrees to compensate DHHS-Public Health Division for the 10-month salaries of five (5) full time nurses, including benefits up to $418,075.
