RESOLUTION
Resolution

WHEREAS, Curtis Kennedy is a beloved community member, whose accomplishments have enriched the lives of his family, friends and community; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy graduated from Rankin High School in Greensboro, NC and enlisted in the US Navy during World War II, where he reached the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class and served in the Norfolk, Virginia shipyard and the Philippines working on ship electrical units and radar systems; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy’s interest in electrical systems led him to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas and upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began his electrical inspection career with Starr Electric Company of Greensboro before being recruited by the Guilford County Planning Department as an Electrical Inspector, where he rose through the ranks to serve as Inspections Director; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kennedy is considered a groundbreaking leader in the Electrical Inspection field; serving as Executive Director, Board Member, Board Vice Chair and Chairman for the NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, and is known as a staunch promoter of fire service throughout North Carolina who supported safety codes for the electrical, fire and building safety disciplines, and successfully advocated for adoption of the NC Fire Prevention Code at the state level; and

WHEREAS, while developing a pioneering career in the inspections and public safety realm, Mr. Kennedy devoted his skills and talents to ensuring the safety of his community by founding the Mcleansville Fire Department in 1951, where he has continuously and actively served as a Fire District Commissioner from the department’s inception.
