BACKGROUND
Background
On July 1, 2005, the City of Burlington annexed a portion of Guilford County wherein TA Operating Corporation (d/b/a as "Travel Centers of America") owns and operates a business known as the "TA Truck Stop" at 1101 NC Highway 61, Whitsett, NC (Exit 138 of U.S. Interstates 85 and 40). In July 2005, an initial Interlocal Agreement was entered into between Burlington and Guilford County wherein the Guilford County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) would continue to provide certain law enforcement services at the TA Truck Stop for a specific fee to be charged on a “per call for service” basis. That interlocal agreement has remained unchanged for seventeen (17) years. The Parties seek to amend that original interlocal agreement to increase the price “per call for service” charged to Burlington from $115.00 to $230.00 per call and to limit and delineate the scope of law enforcement services provided by the GCSO at the TA Truck Stop. Approval will result in a small annual revenue increase of approximately $8,000 for Guilford County.

Requested Action
Approve the proposed amendment to the July 2005 Interlocal Agreement (Contract No. 20879-07/05-035) between Guilford County (on behalf of the Guilford County Sheriff's Office) and the City of Burlington (on behalf of the Burlington Police Department) and amend the fee schedule to reflect the updated per call for service of $230.00.
