BACKGROUND

Background

Voluntary Agricultural Districts (VAD) and Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural Districts (EVAD) were developed by the NC Department of Agriculture to encourage the preservation and protection of farmland from non-farm development.

During its July 18, 2022 meeting the Guilford County Agricultural Advisory Board approved the following application:

1.                     VAD Application #2022-02, being 83.51 acres and comprised of two (2) Tax Parcels (#101069 @ 24.49 acres, #101042 @ 59.02 acres) all owned by Craven Smith and Claude Smith of Gibsonville, NC.

To date, approval of this application brings the total number of VAD and EVAD parcels to 428, totaling 18,989.02 acres enrolled.  Of these totals, 385 parcels comprising 17,223.34 acres are enrolled in VAD, and 43 parcels comprising 1765.68 acres are enrolled in the EVAD. A copy of the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services’ VAD Program Brochure is attached for reference.
