Resolution
IN RECOGNITION AND HONOR OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS BY DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, Jr.
WHEREAS, each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done for racial equality; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., through his selfless and courageous acts of unrestrained speech, protests and marches, enhanced the lives of Americans so that each individual has an equal opportunity to succeed based on their character and ability without regard to race; and
WHEREAS, through his determination, spirit and resolve, Dr. King helped lift souls and lead one of the greatest movements for equality and freedom in history; and
WHEREAS, the Board seeks to honor the life and memory of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the upcoming annual federal holiday celebrating his birthday, we also wish to recognize the life and achievements of the influential American Civil Rights leader; and
WHEREAS, as we observe Dr. King’s birthday this January 17th, Guilford County encourages all residents to celebrate his memory by performing acts of kindness through service to others.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that as we approach the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday it hereby expresses its appreciation and admiration for the life and celebration of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and strive to honor his work by living out his teachings as we continue to strive for equality, dignity and humanity of each and every person.
