BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office was awarded $150,000 from the NC Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) to continue the local reentry council.  Local reentry councils are developed to coordinate resources in the local community in an effort to provide assistance for returning citizens and their families that will facilitate a better transition from incarceration back into Guilford County.  The 2021 allocation of $150,000 was approved by the Board of Commissioners during their June 3, 2021 regular meeting; however, no funds were spent from this allocation during the FY 2020-21 budget.

The FY 2021-22 adopted budget includes 2021 NCDPS local reentry council funding in the amount of $79,270.  The Guilford County Sheriff's Office is requesting the unbudgeted balance of $70,730 be reappropriated to the FY 2021-22 Law Enforcement budget to be used towards reentry council expenses such as: contract services such as transportation, child care for participants, public transportation and work-related uniforms; program supplies and vocational/educational training for the participants.
