RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, on May 18, 2021, nationally recognized conservationist, Eddie Bridges, completed his earthly journey and moved on to higher ground; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bridges, originally from Morganton, North Carolina, was a biology major and student-athlete who attended Elon College, now known as Elon University, where he set records running track and played football; and
WHEREAS, in 1977, Mr. Bridges became a member of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission where he served two (2) six-year terms, and helped develop the North Carolina Lifetime Hunting and Fishing Licenses and the North Carolina Wildlife Endowment Fund, later named the “Eddie Bridges Fund” by the North Carolina General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bridges’ dedication to conservation and environmentalism was matched by his passion for public service and in 1992, he founded the nonprofit North Carolina Wildlife Habitat Foundation that raises funds for land conservation and even raised funds to restore an old Barn at Bur-Mil Park that is now the home of the Frank A. Sharpe Jr. Wildlife Education Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bridges hard work and dedication has led to an impressive list of over forty (40) awards and honors that include: State Conservationist of the Year in 1993, National Conservationist of the Year in 2004, the Field & Stream Conservation Hero of the Year in 2012, and in 2013 he was awarded by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state's highest honor. He also was inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that it hereby expresses its appreciation and admiration for the achievements and accomplishments of Eddie Bridges and his ma...
