BACKGROUND
background
Through funding from the NC Department of Health & Human Services - Epidemiology/Communicable Disease Branch, Guilford County Department of Health & Human Services - Public Health Division has a health trends research contract with Wake Forest University Health Sciences. Wake and Guilford are jointly researching drug-resistant gonorrhea. Wake Forest will collaborate with Public Health to explore mechanisms to increase Guilford PH lab capacity as we continue to pilot new methods of gonorrhea resistance testing and developing novel strategies for rapid response to antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhea. This contract amount is $408,620. The effective period of this contract is June 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022. This is the sixth year of funding and results, so far, have been promising.
