RESOLUTION
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Grimsley Senior High School Whirlies Football Team, led by Coach Darryl Brown, won the 2021 Spring State 4A Football Championship on Friday, May 7, 2021 with a resounding victory of 28-8 over the Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders of Raleigh; and,
WHEREAS, this is the first totally undefeated/untied complete season and state football title ever for the Grimsley Whirlies, and the first since 1960 when it was formally known as Greensboro Senior High School. It will be a prominent jewel in the crown of Grimsley athletic achievements; and,
WHEREAS, this team persevered through a global pandemic with a delayed football season and a modified rigorous schedule, going 10-0 during the season. This team showed grit in the face of adversity with determination, a tough defense and the unleashing of its high-powered offense to achieve the pinnacle of North Carolina High School athletics; and,
WHEREAS, this victory brings the title back to Guilford County as it was the first football title for any Guilford County School since 2016, bringing our football championships total to 33; and,
WHEREAS, student athletes must meet academic and attendance requirements to participate in football programs in Guilford County Schools, ensuring high level of success both in the classroom and in athletic competition; and,
WHEREAS, Guilford County is proud of the Grimsley Whirlies dedication and determination, and appreciates the athletic and educational milestones they accomplished during one of the most unique and challenging school years and football seasons experienced in recent history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Guilford County Board of Commissioners that it hereby congratulates the Grimsley Senior High School Whirlies Football Team on their outstanding victory and hereby expresses its admiration and ...
