BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Animal Services (GCAS) has been awarded a $50,000 Maddie's Fund grant. GCAS continues to be committed to community collaboration to reimagine the role of animal services and will partner with High Point Animal Control, and other community organizations and county departments, to bring resources to underserved communities in High Point. With this grant GCAS will augment the SPOT Mobile Spay/Neuter vehicle by providing additional pet resources to the community. This Mobile Pet Resource Center will alleviate the separation between animal control and the community, leading to more positive outcomes for pets. During these uncertain and challenging times, we will employ a much more intensive form of outreach that meets the needs of the residents in these underserved communities.

Made available by the grant and assistance from our community partners, the Mobile Pet Resource Center would provide, but is not limited to, the following services: provision of free spay/neuter; special neighborhood rabies/wellness clinics; microchip clinics; pet care education; assistance with dog houses/crates; cat/dog food; emergency boarding for cats/dogs; and emergency veterinary care. During the COVID-19 crisis, community outreach and pet owner support is more important than ever. Therefore, it's critical that GCAS provides this vital community support to keep pets and their people together and to make this community better.
