BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County Soil & Water has received a $2,500 grant from the NC Foundation for Soil & Water Conservation to provide financial support to the Guilford Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) for the establishment of an Outdoor Learning Center (OELC) at Southeast Guilford Middle School to educate and demonstrate the importance of soil health, food and crop production, and conservation of natural resources.

 

During its September 2, 2020 meeting the Guilford SWCD approved applying for this grant to assist Southeast Middle School with building a school garden and enriching the Future Farmers of America (FFA) program - one of the first middle school FFA programs in Guilford County.

Approve receipt of $2,500 grant funds to provide financial support for Guilford Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) for establishment of an Outdoor Learning Center (OELC) at SE Guilford Middle School to educate and demonstrate the importance of soil health, food and crop production, and conservation of natural resources; approve a $2,500 increase in Other Revenues and increase the FY 2020-21 Soil & Water Conservation budget by the same amount.
