BACKGROUND
Background
The Clerk of Court area in the Greensboro Courthouse currently has staff in cubicles that are 42 inches in height. A cluster of positive COVID cases has previously occurred in this area. The County's COVID Policy Committee approved CARES Act funding for the installation of Plexiglas along the top of the cubicles to provide separation between staff based on CDC recommendations since this can be done relatively quickly and at a cost of approximately $34,000. Materials have been received but the Plexiglas partitions have not yet been installed. Replacement of the existing cubicles in the Clerk of Court area of the Greensboro Courthouse has been recently requested by Lisa Johnson-Tonkins, Clerk of Superior Court, due to age and condition.
Following a final walkthrough of the Clerk of Court's area, which identified all cubicles in need of replacement, the cost to replace the cubicles with higher cubicles (67 inches tall for most and 85 inches tall for some as requested) is $320,000, per a quote from a local company. A bid process is required for procurement of the new cubicles, unless classified as an emergency procurement. The estimated delivery time for the cubicles is four to six weeks from the date the procurement is authorized by the County via a contract or purchase order.
The recommended funding source is County Fund Balance. Use of CARES Act funding for this cubicle replacement was not approved after review by the County's COVID Policy Committee.
