BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Schools is in the process of preparing for the FY 2020-21 school year which will likely include opportunities for distance learning for students. GCS will need to acquire additional technology to allow students to learn remotely. The Guilford County Board of Commissioners has previously approved $10,000,000 from the county’s Coronavirus Relief Fund allocation from the U.S. Department of Treasury. GCS has taken bids for their technology needs. GCS plans to provide students in Grades 4 through 12 with Chromebooks to be purchased from Lenovo, the lowest bidder for a total cost of $349.25 per device including sales taxes and $327.25 without sales taxes. GCS has asked Guilford County to acquire the devices using the $10,000,000 and pay the sales tax from Coronavirus Relief Funds which would be reimbursed to the county in December 2021.
If Guilford County acquires the devices, an additional 1,932 devices can be obtained for the schools due to the sales tax reimbursement.
