BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is in receipt of the 2020-21 Governor’s Highway Safety Program Grant for a Multi-Agency DWI Task Force in the amount of $155,940. The grant includes $132,549 in revenue and requires a local match of 15% or $23,391. DWI Taskforce Program grant funds are used to sustain of the existing multi-agency DWI Taskforce Program. This program addresses traffic related issues such as unrestrained drivers and children, speeding, motorist driving while impaired, and the community educational aspect of these issues. These funds will continue to support two (2) Deputy Sheriff positions and other operating expenses for the officers, for the task force to replace two (2) Greensboro Police positions that have left the task force. This is the second year the county has received this grant funding, but the ninth year of funding for the overall program.

 

Board approval of the accompanying local government resolution for the grant is necessary.

Requested Action

Approve the receipt of the 2020-21 Governor’s Highway Safety Multi-Agency DWI Taskforce grant totaling $155,940 with $132,549 in Federal/State revenue and a required 15% local match of $23,391, and approve the accompanying local government resolution for the grant.  This grant will be used to maintain funding for two existing grant-funded Deputy Sheriff positions.
