Resolution
WHEREAS, Erline Dennis is a dedicated community and spiritual leader, and lifelong educator; whose faith, perseverance and tireless dedication to education have enriched the lives of her family and local citizens; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis graduated from Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) at age 19, received a Master’s degree from Columbia University in New York City, New York, and earned designation as a Reading Specialist from the University of Colorado; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis enhanced the lives of numerous students during her forty (40) years of service within the City of High Point and Guilford County School systems as a fifth and sixth grade teacher; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis’ passion for learning is matched by her enthusiasm for community service, which has earned her such prestigious positions as Golden Membership status within the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and induction into the WSSU Heritage Society; and
WHEREAS, as a founding member of Greater First United Baptist Church (GFUBC), Ms. Dennis has tirelessly devoted her talents to uplifting the congregation and promoting faith-based service in her roles as Church Clerk and as a member of the Missionary Ministry, Sanctuary Choir and Seasoned Citizens Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis’ commitment to education and service is complemented by an avid interest in world travel throughout the United States and continents of Europe, Asia and Australia; but is only surpassed by her love and devotion to family and friends, to whom she daily instills her values of advocacy, tenacity and generosity, combined with a spirit of curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners express their appreciation and admiration for the life and accomplishments of Erline Dennis, and extends its sincerest congratulations in the celebration of her 100th birthday.
