BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County (County) Planning & Development Department’s Division of Environmental Services is partnering with the Guilford County Parks & Recreation Department, in collaboration with the NC Dept. of Environmental Quality, and has received a 2020 Community Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant (effective FY 2020-21) to promote “Away-From-Home Recycling” at Guilford County park facilities (see attached).  The Grant award includes up to $10,000 with a local match (20%) of $2,000 from Guilford County to purchase recycling receptacles for plastic bottles and cans only (including signage) alongside trash receptacles in five (5) active and ten (10) passive Guilford County parks.  The 20% ($2,000) local match will be met by the respective Department(s) from funds currently budgeted for FY 2020-21.  The total grant award, including the local match, is $12,000.

This collaboration aligns with goals of the Guilford County 2012 Solid Waste Management Plan by promoting environmental stewardship of the County’s park facilities and supports the “Guilford Recycles” theme currently being used by the Planning & Development Department’s Environmental Services Division.
