PROCLAMATION
Proclamation
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services are a vital public service; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County began ambulance services to its citizens in March 1969 as the Emergency Transportation Services and in 1974 began one of the first Paramedic-level ambulance services in the State of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Guilford County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system has, since its inception, established itself as a leading innovator in the provision of emergency medical care to victims of injury and illness; and
WHEREAS, the growth and refinement of EMS has resulted in improved knowledge and capabilities among the highly trained staff of Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians, and more expedient access to needed services by citizens throughout Guilford County; and
WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, and others; and
WHEREAS, this dedication to improved service has resulted in numerous forms of recognition, including being one of less than two hundred ambulance services in the United States accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS); and,
WHEREAS, all citizens of Guilford County can take pride and comfort in the fact that they are served by a professional Emergency Medical Services capable of providing state of the art advanced life support treatment to the citizens and visitors of Guilford County, twenty-four hours a day; and
WHEREAS, on the occasion of the President of the United States and the Governor of North Carolina designating national EMS Week to not only recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices of EMS providers during our national, state and county-wide responses to the coronavirus pandemic, but to honor the commitment and dedication of these tireless individuals while in service to our community every day.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim the week of May 17 through May 23, 2020, as:
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK IN GUILFORD COUNTY
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that each member of the Board extends their deepest gratitude and appreciation to these courageous men and women who serve within our Emergency Medical Services system.
