BACKGROUND
Background
Provisions of the CARES Act allow local governments to enhance their preparedness as part of pandemic planning. The County has identified a shortfall in total ambulances available within the fleet to potentially address surge. CARES specifically addresses capacity building for Emergency Medical Transportation, and the additional units will allow staff the necessary time for more thorough decontamination to better protect staff and the public.
These additional units were not budgeted as part of the FY 2019-20 budget.
The ambulance box and upfit has also been awarded through bid, but box construction will not start until chassis arrival; and is separately listed on the BOC agenda for May 21, 2020. These chassis are Ford F550, 4WD, supercab units and will be purchased from Piedmont Ford (412 S. Regional Rd, Greensboro, NC 27409) under NC State Contract 070A at an individual cost of $59,638.79 or $298,193.95 total.

Requested Action
Approve purchase of five (5) Ford F550 Cab/Chassis from North Carolina State Contract 070A from vendor: Piedmont Ford, 412 S. Regional Rd., Greensboro, NC 27409. The five (5) Ford F550 Cab/chassis will be for use by Emergency Services as ambulance chassis. Contract amount for total award is $298,193.95 ($59,638.79 per chassis).
