BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services - Division of Public Health successfully applied for a grant in the amount of $49,999 through the NCDHHS Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB).  This initiative enables local health departments selected by IVPB to implement community-based strategies to prevent fatal and non-fatal opioid overdoses, and to increase access to care for those who are in vulnerable populations.  Our project focuses on justice-involved persons (JIP) and FIT (Formerly Incarcerated Transition) Program.  FIT is already established at Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine (TAPM) and will expand JIPs from state prisons to also include JIPs from our two local jails in Greensboro and High Point. GCDHHS - DPH will include various community partners on this project: TAPM, GCSTOP, UNC Family Medicine, GC-EMS and GC-Sheriff’s Office. The grant period is 12/1/2019-05/31/2020. Funds will be utilized by community partners to provide staffing and services.
