BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office is requesting approval to purchase and replace two ATVs (Single Person Carrier) and two UTVs  (Utility Terrain Vehicle - multiperson carrier). The estimated total cost of the vehicles is $47,755. The vehicles currently in operation are in poor condition and must be repaired on a regular basis. The funds to purchase these vehicles will come from the Unauthorized Substance Tax Funds. The approximate available fund balance of Unauthorized Substance Tax Funds prior to appropriation is $275,000.00. This purchase is not available on the North Carolina Sheriff's Association State Contract. We have obtained four (4) quotes for these vehicles from reputable dealers in surrounding areas. These vehicles are utilized by the Sheriff's Office for emergency response to remote crime scenes, searching for lost children and elderly in wooded areas, and searching for wanted people in remote or inaccesible places in the county.
