BACKGROUND

Background

The Best Friends Animal Society transport grant program supports organizations and public agencies dedicated to the safe, humane, and efficient relocation of animals to help increase lives saved. Using logistics and proven theories of supply and demand, relocation can be the key to ending the needless euthanasia of animals because of lack of kennel space.  Guilford County received a grant award of $7,000 in September 2019.

These grant funds will cover the purchase of animal transport crates associated with animal relocation, including but not limited to the following:

- Animal transportation/relocation before or post emergency events where Guilford County Animal Services is asked to provide assistance by local, state and/or national agencies;

- Animal relocation program to facilitate the transfer of animals from Guilford County Animal Services to areas where there are few, if any, similar pets available for adoption.

Best Friends Animal Society, founded in its present form in 1993, is an American nonprofit 501(c) animal welfare organization. The group does outreach nationwide with shelters, rescue groups and members to promote pet adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and spay-and-neuter practices
