BACKGROUND
Background
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office is in receipt of the 2019-2020 Governor’s Highway Safety Program Grant in the amount of $558,568. The grant includes $139,642 in revenue and requires a local match of 75% or $418,926 which is shared between the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office ($283,116.75) and the High Point Police Department ($135,809.25). DWI Taskforce Program grant funds are used for sustainment of the existing multi-agency DWI Taskforce program and the DWI Educator program. These programs address traffic-related issues such as unrestrained drivers, children, speeding, motorist driving while impaired and offers community education on these issues, as well. This is the 8th year of funding for this program.

The adopted budget included an estimate of grant funds and the county’s local match and amendments to increase Federal/State revenues by $34,910, appropriated fund balance by $70,122, and the overall Law Enforcement budget by $105,032 are necessary to align the FY 2019-20 budget with final grant award and match amounts.

Board approval of the accompanying local government resolution for the grant is also necessary.
