BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services-Division of Public Health, has received additional grant funding in the amount of $171,720 from Duke Endowment for continued support and expansion of our Guilford Family Connects (GFC) Evidence Based Nurse Home Visitation Program as part of Phase I of the Get Ready Guilford Initiative (GRGI) Year 1. This year's initial grant amount of $172,007 was approved in the FY 2019-20 adopted budget, and additional funding results in a total grant award of $343,727 from Duke Endowment. GRGI is improving outcomes for Guilford County children and their families through a systems’ change approach. The GFC Nurse Home Visiting Program offers nurse home visits to all deliveries throughout Guilford County. Nurse home visits provide support, education, and early identification and referral of health & safety concerns.
This year's initial grant funding of $172,007 included in the FY 2019-20 adopted budget will continue to support two (2) Nurse Specialist I positions, which were originally approved by the Board of Commissioners in January 2018. The additional grant award amount of $171,720 will provide funding for four (4) new positions: one (1) Nursing Services Supervisor, one (1) Nurse Specialist II, one (1) Community Health Consultant and one (1) Senior Office Specialist during the grant period effective April 1, 2019 through December 31, 2019. If approved, this expansion will allow the GFC program to reach all 6,000 new births in our county with the goal of improving on-track development for infants, leading to kindergarten readiness and academic success.
