BACKGROUND

Background

The County Vehicle Replacement Plan, approved as part of the FY 2019-20 budget, included the purchase of three (3) ambulances for replacement of current Emergency Services ambulance units with mileage readings over 300,000.  The chassis for these ambulances are on the Board of Commissioners agenda item for July 18, 2019.  The ambulance boxes were competitively bid through Purchasing under event #511 for a price only contract. The contract term was for two (2) years with two (2) one-year renewals.  The department bid two (2) box lengths: 157" = $146,475 and 172" = $148,246.  The department is requesting approval for the purchase of three (3) 157" modular ambulance boxes from Northwestern Emergency Vehicles (located at 1056 NC-194, West Jefferson, NC 28694) to be mounted on owner-supplied chassis at an individual cost of $146,475, or $439,425 total.  Northwestern Emergency Vehicles is the North Carolina dealer for American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) in Jefferson, NC.
