BACKGROUND
background
The City of Greensboro and Guilford County have a 9 site, trunked, 800 Mhz public safety radio system with towers throughout Guilford County. The State of North Carolina, on behalf of the NC State Highway Patrol, operates a statewide radio infrastructure called VIPER (Voice Inter-Operability Plan for Emergency Responders). The NCSHP has requested to co-locate infrastructure on the Triad Park tower. The land is owned by Guilford County solely and will be signed solely; the tower is jointly owned by the City of Greensboro and Guilford County and will be signed jointly. The lease terms are for $1 per the term of the initial 10-year agreement, with the option for two 10-year renewals.
The benefit to Guilford County is that VIPER serves as a backup to our public safety radio system, and allows statewide communications for all public safety responders
