BACKGROUND
background
Through funding from NC Department of Health & Human Services - Epidemiology/Communicable Disease Branch, Guilford County Department of Health & Human Services - Public Health Division has a health trends research contract with Wake Forest University Health Sciences. Wake and Guilford are jointly researching drug-resistant gonorrhea. Wake Forest will collaborate with Public Health to explore mechanisms to increase Guilford PH lab capacity as we pilot new methods of gonorrhea resistance testing and developing novel strategies for rapid response to antimicrobial-resistant gonorrhea. This contract amount is $434,376 which includes an increase of $67,956 over last year. The effective period of this contract is June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020. This is the fourth year of funding, and results so far have been promising.
