BACKGROUND
Background
After voting to not proceed with the LEC Renovation project, the Board of Commissioners indicated a desire to explore other options to assess and provide for the needs of the Sheriff's Office and evaluate other facility needs which included the following:

- Determine the desired square footage and cost of a new facility on the Otto Zenke site or alternate location. If the new facility is to be built on an alternate site, disposition of the Otto Zenke building and associated cost will be determined.
- Disposition of the Law Enforcement Center (reuse or demolition) and associated cost. If to be demolished, will include requirements for the LEC portion of the tunnel (continuously open, temporarily closed during demolition, or closed and rebuilt after demolition) that is used to transfer inmates from the Detention Center to the courthouse.
- Evaluation of the parking capacity/needs on the Otto Zenke and/or LEC site and estimated cost
- Determine whether the Edgeworth Building will remain occupied. Approximately $2.5 million is needed to address deferred maintenance needs if it remains occupied. If to be vacated, disposition of the buildng and any cost associated with relocation of the current occupants will be determined.
- Description of phasing or necessary sequence of activities that is necessary to fulfill project scope along with estimated schedule.

The intent is to assess facility needs and define the scope and budget for a new project. A proposal has been received from J. Hyatt Hammond Architects to provide these services for a fee of $35,400. The deliverable will be a written report including a detailed estimate. If the project scope and budget meet the Board's approval, a separate process will be initiated for a project to accomplish the desired scope.
