BACKGROUND

Background

This presentation will provide an in-depth understanding of both In-Home Aide and Adult Day Care programs and how important these services are to the aging population of Guilford County.

Currently, there are 29% of adults over the age of 65 living alone. Over the next two decades, adults in Guilford County over the age of 60 will increase by 44.2%. With the population aging, health needs and care for seniors and disabled adults will continue to rise adding financial burdens to families and an already overloaded funding system. More and more seniors will begin seeking long-term care options. Many seniors and disabled adults desire to remain living in their homes as long as they can. DHHS-DSS is fortunate to be able to assist with honoring those wishes.

The In-Home Aide (IHA) and Adult Day Care (ADC) are two programs housed within the Aging and Adult Services division within Social Services. Both programs provide supportive services to older and disabled adults allowing them to remain safely in their homes and communities. The services of both In-Home Aide and Adult Daycare promote independence, prevent premature placement into long-term care facilities and nurture self-determination.

Currently, we are serving 179 In-Home Aide clients and 47 Adult Day Care clients. Over the past year, the inquiry list has been reduced by 76%.

In-Home Aide services are provided through (11) contracted licensed home care agencies. Adult Day Care services are contracted with (2) Adult Day Care/Adult Day Health providers. Case management services are provided by Guilford County DHHS-DSS Aging and Adult social work staff.

Both programs are funded by SSBG, HCCBG, county matches and consumer contributions.
