BACKGROUND
Background
Many adult dogs entering the Guilford County Animal Shelter have pre-existing medical conditions that require extra special care. One of these medical needs is Heartworm disease. This disease is preventable, but once the worms are acquired, treatment is both costly and dangerous to the dog. Adoption fees alone do not cover the routine care and these extra special cases are an even greater strain on our limited resources. Guilford County Animal Services would like to establish an assigned fund balance supported by donations to cover the cost of Heartworm treatments for these dogs post adoption. This support will enable us to continue saving more and more animals who enter our doors in search of a new loving home.
Animal Services intends for this fund to be supported entirely by donations with no additional county funds required. The department has already received $2,000 in private donations in FY 2018.
