BACKGROUND

Background

In May 2017, the Board of Commissioners authorized Planning & Development staff to apply for, and if approved, administer the Historic Preservation Fund Pass-Through Grant for $21,000 to repair the northeast corner main house porch support timber and replace roof shingles at the locally-designated Mendenhall Home Place.  Subsequent to submission, the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) approved a revised Scope of Work solely for roof repair, with a revised budget of $15,000.   SHPO, via the US Department of Interior, approved the grant application and will assist County staff in administration of grant funding.

The grant requires a 40% local match ($6,000), which is being committed by the Historic Jamestown Preservation Society, with the remaining 60% of repair costs ($9,000) covered by the grant.  The County would be reimbursed for any upfront project costs.
