BACKGROUND

Background

Guilford County Solid Waste plans to expand its investigation of illegal White Goods dumping sites and complaints regarding Solid Waste Ordinance violations, while improving the processing and transport of recyclable materials at the Scrap Tire & White Goods collection site, located at 2138 Bishop Road, Greensboro, NC.  The department requests approval to purchase the following:

One (1) Ford F-150 truck:                     $29,500

One (1)  Forklift:                                                               $20,720

Total:                                                                                     $50,220

The vehicle purchase (via State Contract) will allow staff to transport White Goods discovered at illegal dumpsites throughout the county to our Bishop Road collection site located.  Additionally, a new forklift will make processing and transporting recyclable white goods materials at the collection site more efficient.  The new forklift will serve as replacement for an older model skid steer housed at Bishop Road that will be offered to Facilities for use or sold through GovDeals.  Currently, the forklift provides more utility for the Solid Waste program and will accompany an existing forklift purchased in 1998.

No additional County funds are required as White Goods Disposal Fee funding will be used to purchase the vehicle and equipment.  As of March 2018, the balance in White Goods Disposal Fee funding is $215,107.
