BACKGROUND

Background

Cure Violence programs have been initiated in a significant number of communities across the United States.  The Cure Violence model uses a data-driven analysis combined with trained outreach workers from the community to address violence in our neighborhoods.  The GCSO is requesting funding to pay for the initial assessment and study to determine if a Cure Violence program can be successfully implemented here in Guilford County.  Specifically, the GCSO is requesting that monies be allocated from the Sheriff’s Inmate Welfare Fund and combined with an additional amount to be provided by the City of Greensboro and Greensboro Police Department to fund this initial assessment and study.

The inmate welfare fund balance will be $639,114 after this appropriation.
