BACKGROUND

Background

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office is in receipt of the 2017 Governor's Highway Safety Program Grant in the amount of $456,296 ($114,075 in Federal/State revenue and a local match of $342,221 which is shared between the Guilford County Sheriff's Office $179,201 and the High Point Police Department $163,020).  The DWI Task Force Program grant funds are used for sustainment of the existing multi-agency DWI Taskforce Program which addresses traffic-related issues such as unrestrained drivers, children, speeding, and motorist driving while impaired.  This is the 6th year of funding for this program.  The adopted budget included an estimate of grant funds and the county's local match.  This agenda item aligns the budget with the final grant award as follows:  increase the Law Enforcement budget by $8,718; increase Federal/State funds by $9,136; and decrease Appropriated Fund Balance by $418.  The Board is also requested to approve the accompanying local government resolution for the grant.
