BACKGROUND
background
The proposed project is outlined in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs' (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Violent Gang and Gun Crime Reduction Program (Project Safe Neighborhoods). Greensboro's Project Safe Neighborhood/Re-Entry Program aligns community partners, Guilford County Juvenile Detention, local law enforcement and Federal & State law enforcement to continue to make Greensboro a proactive model of keeping its community a safe place to live and work. Total funding for Greensboro's Project Safe Neighborhood/Re-Entry program equals $300,000 and requires no matching funds. The City agrees to pay Guilford County a rate of $4,000 annually, for a total sum not to exceed $8,000 for the effective grant period (Effective grant period is October 1, 2016 - September 30, 2018), for approved services provided by Guilford County Juvenile Detention. This grant funded project will work to create safer neighborhoods through a sustained reduction in gang violence and gun crime. Services rendered will include gang intervention services & prevention curriculum for youth between the ages of 8 to 16.

Requested action
Approve, in substantial form, an inter-local agreement with the City of Greensboro for the Project Safe Neighborhood/Re-Entry Program, approve an increase in Federal/State revenues by $8,000 and increase the FY 2017-18 Court Alternatives budget by the same amount for training and implementation of the program.
