BACKGROUND
Background
Juvenile Court Infant and Toddler Initiative (JCITI) is a program through The Center for Youth, Family and Community Partnerships at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The mission of JCITI is to achieve safe and healthy homes for infants and toddlers involved in the juvenile court system more quickly and efficiently by working closely with the family through intense supervision with a special collaboration between the court, the Department of Social Services, and treatment providers.
JCITI seeks to identify the developmental needs of young children whose families are involved in the juvenile court process due to abuse or neglect and to ensure fully informed court decisions to meet those needs.
This initiative was started 6 years ago and was modeled after the Zero to Three Court Team. It is designed to provide additional services to families with young children to help expedite reunification.
The request is for the Board of Commissioners to approve a new Social Worker III position. This position would be an employee of DSS working directly with JCITI cases. The position will be grant funded for two years sponsored by Partnership for Children. The grant is $55,000 each year, and the Social Worker III salary including benefits will total $54,391.
