BACKGROUND
Background
The Sheriff's Department requests a sole source exception to purchase a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to maintain two-way radio communication through the tunnel and elevator shaft area of the Courthouse. The existing Bi-Directional Amplifier is over 25 years old and cannot be repaired if anything happens to the unit. With construction scheduled in the fiscal year to start on the LEC building the unit will need to be replaced with the newer technology which is to referred to as a DAS. The new DAS will be connected to the radio repeater that is located in the new jail and be an extension of that system instead of maintaining two different systems. Longent is the provider that installed the current system in the new jail in 2012 which also includes a cell phone booster throughout the jail and this extension to that system will give us both two-way radio and cell service in the tunnel going under Eugene St where prisoners are transported daily for court appearances. Logent has developed a proprietary system for benchmarking and designing these systems, and being that it is an extension of the current system the department feels this would be the best resource to ensure safety and reliability to the officers working in this area.
Funds were included in the FY 2017-18 budget for this purchase.

Requested Action
Approve sole source purchase of the Distributed Antenna System from Logent located at 7250 ACC Blvd. Raleigh, N.C. 27617 using current budget funds in the amount of $86,604.67, which includes all project design, materials and labor to complete the system. Direct staff to take such actions necessary to secure the purchase of the equipment and enter into any necessary agreements.
