BACKGROUND

Background

On June 30, 2017, the North Carolina General Assembly enacted Session Law 2017-87, Senate Bill 155, entitled “An Act to Make Various Changes to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission Law.” The adopted bill, amended Article 6 of Chapter 153A of the General Statutes to allow for the sale of malt beverages, unfortified wine, fortified wine, and mixed beverages beginning at 10:00AM on Sunday pursuant to the licensed premises permit issued under G.S. 18B-1001, rather than the previous 12:00 Noon Sunday hour of sale. Senate Bill 155 requires that participating Counties adopt an ordinance to implement the hour of sale of 10:00AM on Sunday.

A first reading of this ordinance occurred on July 13, 2017.
