BACKGROUND

Background

During the housing development in Guilford County in the late 90's Guilford asked the State of NC to create a set of rules for properly installing remote septic systems as subdivisions were becoming more difficult to develop due to poor or unsuitable soil/site conditions. The State Department of Natural Resources allowed Guilford County to create our own rule; which was adopted in 2007 as a Guilford Count Board of Health Rule.

Our rule has served Guilford County very well, and the State Department has now created their own very similar, but more intensive rule, based on Guilford's effective wording. NC Dept. of Environmental Health and Natural Resources (DEHNR) passed their rule in September of 2016.  Guilford now wishes to rescind our local rule and adhere to the state rule.
