BACKGROUND

Background

Following completion of the new K9 Facility, the Sheriff's Office is requesting to purchase materials and equipment for the training section of the building, and to ensure the security of the facility and K9's.  The Sheriff's Office is requesting the following:

 

1).  Materials to place a fence across the front portion of the entrance to the range facility, including an electric gate - $15,000

2).  Concert to secure fence post - $2,000 

3).  Materials for a wooden privacy fence 8' in height around the facility to enclose the training area and to build training obstacle course - $10,000 

4).  Equipment and installation of a IP camera and fob system for the security of the K9's and property - $20,000

5).  Enclose bottom section of the range tower for storage - $5,000

6).  10% contingency - $5,200

 

The total amount for purchase of all materials, equipment, installation and contingency is $57,200, which will be paid through Department of Justice Federal Forfeiture funds.  Approximately $711,000 was available in Federal Forfeiture fund balance prior to this appropriation.

REQUESTED ACTION

Requested Action

Approve an increase in appropriated fund balance (Federal Forfeiture Funds) by $57,200 and increase the FY 2017 Law Enforcement budget by $57,200. Direct staff to take such actions necessary to secure the purchase of the equipment and enter into any necessary agreements, as directed by state and county policy and/or law.
