BACKGROUND
Background
Within the past year the county was notified that Lankford Security would be moving towards new ownership. On March 17, 2017, Allied Universal Inc. purchased the county’s security contract from Lankford Protective Services and agreed to assume the terms and conditions therein including the existing term through June 30, 2017 and an option for a one-year renewal.
Staff recommend moving forward with the assumption of the contract for the remainder of the contract term for this fiscal year, and executing the one-year option for renewal through June 30, 2018, in order to assess the new vendor while maintaining current rate provisions.
The county made a decision during the 2016/2017 budget process to provide Company Police and/or armed security options for two additional county facilities. This option was delayed due to the uncertainty with Lankford’s ability to continue service provision. If the assumed contract is approved, the county will move forward with amending the terms of the agreement to allow for armed and/or Company Police.

Requested Action
Authorize staff to enter into agreement with Universal Protection Service, LP dba Allied Universal Security Services for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2016-17 through June 30, 2018 in an amount not expected to exceed $1,098,223 in order to ensure proper transition due to the acquisition of Lankford Security; and authorize staff to take any and all necessary measures to execute the agreements.
