PROCLAMATION

Proclamation

WHEREAS, Guilford County has benefited from the immeasurable contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Americans have had a profound and positive influence in this County through their dedication to social, cultural, civic and economic causes that strengthen our community; and

WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Americans have enhanced our local character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural customs of their home communities; and

WHEREAS, since the beginnings of the United States, Hispanic and Latino Americans have bravely served our Armed Forces, both at home and abroad, protecting and defending the freedoms we enjoy daily; and

WHEREAS, since 1968, the anniversary of independence of the following Latin American countries is celebrated during the months of September and October: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Chile and Belize; and

WHEREAS, in Guilford County we recognize the distinct heritage and rich culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans, and honor the achievements and invaluable ways they contribute to our common goals and ideals.

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of October 2016 as “HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH” in Guilford County, and encourage all citizens to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities that celebrate the important role Hispanic and Latino Americans play within our community.
