BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County and the United Animal Coalition (UAC) received approval from the NC Attorney General's Office on June 20, 2016 to transfer $233,637 in donations to Susie's Fund and $31,109 in donations to the Animal Shelter Building Fund received by UAC, to the County. In accordance with the purpose of Susie's Fund and the Animal Shelter Building Fund, and the County's commitment as a condition of the transfer from UAC, these monies will only be used for their designated purposes as follows:
Susie’s Fund donations will be used for the medical treatment of abused, injured, or neglected animals at the Guilford County Animal Shelter. These funds will not be used for customary non-emergency vet services such as spay/neuter, well-animal checkups, food, or any other usual and customary expenses of running a shelter. In addition, the funds will be maintained in a separate account on Guilford County Financial books, and a running balance and transactions will be reported on a publicly available County webpage, which will be maintained for a year after all funds, current and future, are expended. Finally, Guilford County will continue to refer to Susie's Fund by that name and account for any additional donations received in the same manner as those transferred from UAC in June 2016.
Animal Shelter Building Funds will be used for costs actually incurred in the design and construction of a new County Animal Shelter Building.
