PROCLAMATION
Proclamation
WHEREAS, the Guilford County Partnership for Children, along with other local organizations and in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), are celebrating April as the “Month of the Young Child” and April 5-11, 2025 as the “Week of the Young Child”; and
WHEREAS, there are over 31,000 children aged 0-5 (not yet in kindergarten) in Guilford County and 60% of these children live in households where their sole parent or both parents are working; and
WHEREAS, children’s cognitive, physical, social, emotional, language and literacy development are built through positive interactions with adults, peers, and their environment during these critical early years; and
WHEREAS, participation in high-quality early childhood education saves taxpayer dollars, makes working families more economically secure, and prepares children to succeed in school, earn higher wages, and live healthier lives; and
WHEREAS, Guilford County’s 322 licensed early care and education facilities employ over 1900 teaching staff, and provide early care and education to over 10,500 children from birth to five (5) years old; and
WHEREAS, high-quality early childhood education depends on high-quality early childhood educators who ensure that children, supported by families, have the early experiences they need for a strong foundation, and these high-quality educators make a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families of Guilford County and deserve thanks and recognition; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Guilford County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 2025 as the “Month of the Young Child” and April 5-11, 2025 as the “Week of the Young Child” in Guilford County, and encourages, recognizes and celebrates t...
