BACKGROUND
Background
Guilford County Health & Human Services - Public Health Division is requesting authorization to purchase pharmaceuticals and vaccines from Cardinal Health and Merck & Co., Inc. Both manufacturers have partnered with the County for decades however now the annual expenses have increased due to demands for pharmaceuticals and vaccines by the community and rising unit prices.

Cardinal Health provides medicine and vaccines to various Public Health Communicable Disease, STD, Clinical Services, International Travel, and Maternity Clinics. In FY25 public health provided 11,347 immunizations and filled 38,560 prescriptions between both our Greensboro and High Point locations. Services were provided to over 12,000 patients in our clinical services programs. Cardinal Health is on NC state contract 269A for pharmaceutical distribution services. Public Health is requesting an annual not-to-exceed amount of $300,000 with four (4) possible one-year renewals for a five (5) year total of $1,500,000.

Public Health is requesting authorization to purchase vaccines from the pharmaceutical manufacturer, Merck & Co., Inc. Merck & Co., Inc. is part of the Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy (MMCAP) purchasing group for public health entities. Public Health is requesting an annual not-to-exceed amount of $150,000 with four (4) possible one-year renewals for a five (5) year total of $750,000.
