BACKGROUND
Background
On May 18, 2023, the Board of Commissioners established a capital project ordinance for the Juvenile Detention Facility Security Enhancements, with $200,000 in project expenses, funded by $200,000 in appropriated fund balance. The project was established to make safety and security upgrades at the Juvenile Detention Facility that would replace the PLC door control, upgrade of existing intercom system, video surveillance system and replace the outdated main control room. Since that time, staff have determined the scope of the project is larger than previously estimated and should include a security housing station and additional surveillance cameras on each Pod (juvenile living units) that will allow the Juvenile Counselor Technicians immediate access to room doors during emergency incidents. The additional upgrades are estimated at $183,680, which will be added to the already approved $200,000, giving the project a total cost of $383,680.
The project will be fully funded by appropriated fund balance in the County Building Construction Fund. The prior board action on May 18, 2023, closed completed projects to free up available dollars, which are being appropriated from fund balance.
